Communications Consulting

I advise businesses and NGOs on developing communications strategies. Clients include: UNAIDS, International Osteoporosis Foundation, IUCN-the World Conservation Union, Medecins Sans Frontiers.

I also offer "Wake-Up Writing" workshops to help people communicate to general audiences. It helps individuals move away from jargon-laden and bureaucratic "beige" writing and learn to tell the human story, identify conflict, find heroes and villains, and focus on a single message.

Some of the people who benefit from the workshop are the communicators who actually write the stories for publication in newspapers, and other outlets.

Other people who benefit are the technical folks who are not expected to produce finished articles, but who are expected to write briefs that can help the professional communicators and fundraisers do their job better. I've found that if these individuals have a better understanding of what elements comprise a good story, they can provide better briefings, make better presentations, write better reports, and promote their projects in numerous ways. My experience is that people in the field are sitting on great stories but either aren't encouraged to tell them or don't quite know how.
